 NOVARTIS BEACON OF HOPE INITIATIVE
TMCF has partnered with Novartis US Foundation to form the TMCF | Novartis US Foundation HBCU Alliance. This innovative collaboration is part of the Novartis US Foundation’s Beacon of Hope, a 10-year initiative to address the root causes of disparities in health and education, and improve health outcomes for Black/African Americans.
As a key Beacon of Hope partner, TMCF is helping Novartis provide more equitable access to affordable, high-quality education to develop future leaders, particularly in the health and social equity related fields.
In 2021, Novartis US Foundation committed $20
million to TMCF over 10 years to help fund faculty
research grants, and award $10,000 annual scholarships to undergraduate and graduate recipients.
We are pleased to report that 120 annual scholarships were awarded in 2022. In addition, numerous students attending Beacon of Hope HBCUs and HBCU medical schools benefited from the career readiness programming and mentorship training provided. Key components included online learning and instruction, Coursera platform utilization and skill assessment.
KIEWIT CORPORATION HBCU IMMERSION PROGRAM
Kiewit Corporation is one of North America’s largest and most respected construction and engineering organizations. Our partnership with Kiewit began this year to provide select HBCU engineering and construction management students a two-day career immersion program, aptly titled, the Kiewit HBCU Immersion Program.
Participating students are immersed in Kiewit’s workplace culture, and get to engage with Kiewit’s employees and executives. They not only learn about what life is like at Kiewit but the construction and engineering industry at large. Following this event, select students are awarded Kiewit internships, as well as a $10,000 scholarship based on need.
Our inaugural Kiewit HBCU immersion was an overwhelming success. A total of 20 students attended, with 10 of those students selected for internships and scholarships. This partnership solidly represents TMCF’s and Kiewit’s commitment to community and HBCU student excellence. Expect many more of these events to come.

 MENTEE TESTIMONIAL
“I have no complaints, only gratitude. I am a pharmacy student and I was paired with a pharmacist who is active in various organizations. The platform, Coursera, was easy to use and made it super simple to set appointments and document the topics for each meeting to see our progress. My mentor is amazing!”
