PREPARING FUTURE STUDENTS:
EDUCATING IN HYBRID WORK ENVIRONMENTS
According to the Condition of Education Report for 2020, Black students make up 15% of all public-school students in the U.S. Yet, Black teachers represent 7% of the teacher workforce, with Black men accounting for less than 2%.
Seeing the need now more than ever, TMCF is addressing this disparity through its Teacher Quality and Retention Program (TQRP). The program provides robust training and mentoring focused on aspiring
pre-service and new teachers nationwide coming from publicly supported HBCUs and PBIs.
TQRP bolsters three areas of focus: HBCU males, STEM and new teachers in developing sound pedagogy and research-based educational practices.
Borrowing lessons from a 2006 Gates school reform grant and a 2008 teacher prep program pilot, TQRP’s impact has been tremendous.
Since its 2009 launch, TQRP has positively affected more than 600 program fellows across 20 states and 45 TMCF member schools. TQRP Fellows have supported over 31,000 K-12 students throughout U.S. urban and rural communities.
