story by Allie Watson photo by Leo Ridge
Anyone who knows Courtney Anderson knows her kind heart and passion for helping others. After graduating from the University of Mississippi with a degree in journalism and hospitality management, Anderson found her calling in serving her community through local nonpro ts.
Anderson has recently joined
the Bacot McCarty Foundation as development director, a role that she gained experience for through her previous position with the American Cancer Society. As development director, her goal is to help expand and develop the foundation’s e ectiveness by partnering with local community leaders.
The Bacot McCarty Foundation was founded in 1978 with the mission to enhance lives in the
Gulf Coast Region with a focus
on youth, education, the arts and other worthy causes. For example, each year the Foundation presents scholarships to graduating seniors who have been selected by guidance counselors. The hope is that the seniors will return to the Coast after college graduation as leaders and role models to the students coming behind them.
One of the foundation’s most popular fundraising events, “The Jolly,” is an annual golf tournament that has been going strong for 17 years. The event includes a gala
and a silent auction where 100 percent of the proceeds go to the nonpro ts involved. Despite the halt of fundraising events due to COVID-19, the Bacot McCarty Foundation has continued to serve the community and provide nancial support to worthwhile causes. The foundation plans to hold new awareness events in the coming year.
“I am forever grateful to be working with this organization that does so much across our region!” said Anderson, whose position allows her to help enhance Harrison and Jackson counties. “I see my job as an opportunity to give coastal residents a voice for both their concerns and needs to be heard.”
Each week, Anderson co-hosts a local television show on WGUD TV19 and WXXV FOX 25 that showcases di erent non-pro t organizations from across the region. In her free time Anderson enjoys running, reading and spending time with family.
