For the city and its businesses, that ease of access
will hopefully transfer to tourism dollars. “The new interchange gives the tourists that travel on I-110 an easy off and on to come in and spend the day and get where they’re going. If we can pick up a small portion of that traffic, it will really triple our business in town,” Mayor Rusty Quave said.
In September, D’Iberville broke ground on its new, state-of-the-art police department. The building was designed by Machado Patano and is being built by DCD Construction on Lamey Bridge Road in the D’Iberville Public Safety Complex, which also houses the fire station. The police complex represents a $4.8 million investment that will offer 14,000 square feet – more than three and
a half times the size of the old station – and feature
the most modern of technology. The fire station was completed in 2016 at a cost of $2.6 million, bringing the total for both structures to more than $7.4 million.
“This new facility will provide a safer working environment for the officers, a training facility, and the capability to sustain officers for long periods of time, if the need arises, during times of any natural disaster,” says Jones. “This new facility is one our citizens can be proud of.”
Investments in the community are also a key factor in
D’Iberville’s development. Recent additions include the Tchoutacabouffa Paddling Trail and Nature Park, an expansion of the municipal marina, improvements to the Rusty Quave Sports Complex, and numerous road and drainage improvement projects.
“The value of building permits issued increased 21 percent in the commercial sector and 25 percent in residential,” Jones says. “As we move into a new decade, we are hitting the ground running on the addition of almost 80,000 square feet of retail space that will be added to our existing 1.6 million square feet.”
D’Iberville will ring in the new decade by celebrating the grand openings of two high-profile restaurants in the spring, starting the development of a city amphitheater and park, adding gaming venues, and continuing retail development. Continuous investments will be made in infrastructure improvements, and public health and safety.
“Our citizens’ quality-of-life is always our top priority and the focus of everything we do,” Jones said.
