By David Grisham
TUNICA — When Guy Fieri’s Tunica Kitchen + Bar opened last fall at Horseshoe Tunica with the promise of bringing big, bold flavors to Tunica, it created a lot of buzz. Guy Fieri, the spiky-haired Food Network star, celebrated its opening soon after at Horseshoe and visited with guests at the Tunica property.
Now the restaurant is celebrating you in February with Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day specials.
For Mardi Gras, try the Spicy Shrimp Po’ Boy (fried spicy shrimp served on a hoagie bun with lettuce, tomato and spicy remoulade with a trio of fries) for $26.99 and, what else, a N’awlins Hurricane (white-and-dark rum, orange and lime juice, passion fruit syrup and grenadine) for $18.99.
For Valentine’s Day, Guy has a Turf & Surf Special featuring a 12-ounce Striploin with four grilled shrimp. They come served with potato logs and a side of greens for $49.99. A Love Potion Cocktail (vodka, pink lemonade, and Peach Schnapps) is available for $16.99. Add a half-dozen or a dozen chocolatecoveredstrawberriesfor$9.99and $18.99 respectively.
blacked strip steak, chicken-and-biscuits, and another unique dish – Ragin’ Cajun fried catfish.
Dessert options include a seven-layer whiskey cake, The Cheesecake Challenge (half a New York-style marble cheesecake topped with crushed potato chips, salted pretzels, plus hot fudge), and The Big Brookie (half brownie, half cookie served with vanilla
bean ice cream and bourbon salted caramel). Under “Shareables” one can find Trash Can Nachos, fried green tomatoes, and BBQ garlic butter shrimp. The Trash Can Nachos
are another Guy signature selection. Another menu section features Buffalo wings, BBQ wings and lemon pepper wings, and under “Greens & Chili Beans,” one can opt for a Caesar salad served with a variety of proteins, a BBQ chopped-chicken salad, as well as beef chili cooked “low and slow” and topped with melted cheddar cheese,
sweet corn bread, sour cream and scallions. Guests at Guy’s will see that at the center of the restaurant is an inviting bar. Screens are tuned to sports and one features Guy
working his culinary magic. A variety of GuyFierirevealshisTrashCanNachos. winesareavailable, alongwithbeers, seltzers,
Guy Fieri’s Kitchen + Bar, the first in Mississippi, is impressive. His trademark personality shines through every design detail, from signage with famous catch-phrases like “flavortown” to metal work that captures his likeness.
Guy’s signature bacon mac-n-cheese burger is one of the selections that stands out on the menu. This burger was the winner of the New York City Food and Wine Festival’s Burger Bash. The beefy burger is stacked high with crispy Applewood bacon, six- cheese mac-n-cheese, onion straws, lettuce, tomato, pickle, melted cheese and a special donkey mayo sauce on a garlic butter brioche bun. It also comes with a generous trio of crispy fries.
This selection can be found on the menu under “Big Burger Bites.” Also under that heading is the Primetime American Kobe, which features American-style Kobe beef, caramelized onion jam, smoked Gouda cheese, cheddar cheese, onion straws, aged Parmesan cheese, pickles, plus donkey sauce on a garlic-buttered brioche bun, and a pimento cheeseburger that features a smashed ground beef patty topped with cheddar and pimento cheese, pimento-pickle relish, plus donkey sauce on a garlic-buttered brioche bun. Both sound intriguing.
Under “Signature Sandwiches” one can find the Mac Daddy Fried Chicken Sandwich, the Motley Que Pulled Pork, the Old Skool Steak Sandwich and even a catfish po’ boy. All have the Fieri touch. Under “Big Eats” are St. Louis ribs, a Cajun chicken Alfredo,
enticing signature cocktails and margaritas. Note that breakfast is served from 7 to 11 a.m. daily at Guy’s restaurant. Breakfast options are many and include chicken-and- waffles, French toast, a breakfast burrito, Belgian-style waffles,
biscuits-and-gravy, as well as buttermilk pancakes in either a half or full stack. There is also a big breakfast, which features two eggs any style, smoked bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, grits, and buttermilk biscuit. Breakfast sides include grits, oatmeal, toast, buttermilk biscuits, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes and a fruit bowl.
