LEAVING THURGOOD MARSHALL COLLEGE FUND
It is the policy of TMCF to ensure that team member terminations, including voluntary, involuntary terminations and terminations due to the death
of a team member, are handled in a professional manner with minimal disruption to the workplace.
There are three types of terminations:
• Voluntary
• Involuntary
• Death of a team member
Although advance notice is not required, TMCF requests at least two weeks’ written notice from all team members and 30 days written notice from executive and management team members.
TMCF will generally schedule exit interviews at the time of employment termination. The exit interview will afford an opportunity to discuss such issues as team member benefits, conversion privileges, repayment of outstanding debts to TMCF, or return of TMCF property. Suggestions, complaints and questions can also be voiced.
Team members must return all TMCF property immediately upon termination of employment. Where permitted by applicable law, TMCF may withhold from the team member’s check or final paycheck the cost of any items that are not returned when required. TMCF may also take all action deemed appropriate to recover or protect its property.
Since employment with TMCF is based on mutual consent, both the team member and TMCF have the right to terminate employment at will, with or without cause, at any time. Team member benefits will be affected by employment termination in the following manner. All vested benefits that are due and payable at termination will
be paid. Some benefits may be continued at the team member’s expense if the team member so chooses. The team member will be notified in writing of the benefits that may be continued and of the terms, conditions and limitations of such continuance.
POST-TERMINATION CONTINUATION OF HEALTH INSURANCE
The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) provides eligible individuals with the option to continue health insurance coverage under TMCF’s policy, at their own expense and for a certain period of time, upon the termination of employment as well as in other circumstances. For more information, please contact the human resources department.
