P. 6

March 5, 2025 Dear Dr. Williams,
On behalf of the city of Charlotte, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) on the occasion of the CEO Impact Awards. I also offer sincere congratulations to this year’s honoree, my friend Gene Woods. TMCF could not have chosen a more deserving recipient.
TMCF’s unwavering dedication to transforming the lives of students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) is truly commendable. Your efforts have not only opened doors for countless students but have also enriched communities nationwide by fostering talent and leadership.
The success of CEO Impact Award events across our nation stand as a testament to the profound impact of TMCF’s mission. Honoring exemplary leaders who serve as role models for HBCU students underscores the organization’s commitment to excellence and empowerment.
In Charlotte, we recognize the invaluable contributions of TMCF alumni, such as Jaâ’Mya Giles, a graduate of Winston-Salem State University. Her dedication to uniting and uplifting our community reflects the core values instilled by TMCF and HBCUs.
As the first African American female mayor of Charlotte, I deeply appreciate TMCF’s role in advocating for educational equity and opportunity. Your work aligns with our city’s commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and economic mobility.
Once again, congratulations to both Gene and TMCF on the CEO Impact Awards! May this event inspire continued support and recognition for leaders who champion the advancement of HBCUs and their students.
Sincerely,
Vi Alexander Lyles Mayor
