THRIVING
IN A NEW NORMAL
TMCF navigated unchartered waters in 2022, as the world transitioned to a new phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these headwinds, TMCF celebrated its 35th anniversary!
Reflecting on this journey, we recognize Dr. N. Joyce Payne and the founding partners who launched TMCF in 1987. Their synergy robustly launched TMCF with a clear vision that remains today – advocating for and acquiring opportunities for exceptional students attending our 47 publicly supported HBCUs and PBIs.
Indeed, TMCF worked tirelessly in 2022 to garner immersion experiences and seats at corporate tables on behalf of our students, neither of which is a given for many Black Americans. Add to that the upheaval resulting from the pandemic, and adaptability became a key training focus.
TMCF committed this year to acclimating member students to hybrid work modalities in corporate and education environments. Budding and existing educators learned to adjust to this evolving landscape by engaging in programming such as TMCF’s staple Teacher Quality & Retention Program (TQRP), where participants explored innovative ways to educate students adversely impacted by the pandemic.
There were glimpses of normalcy this year. The Leadership Institute and annual awards and fundraiser gala returned to in-person events with tremendous support, both in celebration of our momentous 35th year.
The work of the Dr. N. Joyce Payne Center for Social Justice – now in its second year – continued to shine, and we witnessed the historical confirmation of another trailblazer: Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
We continued to support our 47 member schools, serving as a constant resource and ally to students, researchers, partners, donors and supporters. Our organization is greater than one. So, in this anniversary year, we pause and acknowledge our humble start, strong supporters and ever-growing future. Here’s to a new normal!
