Meet the new General Manager at Fallen Oak, Lydia Kim. A former St John’s University standout golfer, Kim brings a wealth of fairway-and-green knowledge to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and to one of the premier golf courses in the country.
Growing up in Spokane, Washington, better known as Lilac City, Kim started playing golf at the age of 12 and quickly blossomed
to a successful leader on the course and off. She received a full-
ride scholarship at St John’s University, competed in the Big East Conference for four years, and graduated with a Sports Management Degree.
Kim turned in her Red Storm carry bag for a position at MGM Resorts International in the Sports Sponsorships Department where she managed PGA and LPGA player appearances and events, among other responsibilities. She will now oversee Fallen Oak, Golf Magazine’s Best in State since its opening in 2008 and a Golf Digest 100 Greatest Public since 2009.
Kim used her marketing flair to highlight LPGA and PGA professionals in MGM’s promotional campaigns, and now she plans to show off Fallen Oak around the globe. “I want to bring in cool events that attract people from all over the world,” revealed Kim.
MGM Resorts and Beau Rivage Resort & Casino are leading the charge to empower women in management positions, and Kim could not be more excited about that. “It will empower young women in the company, inspire them. It builds a good community around me.” She added, “The most exciting aspect is learning new things. When people collaborate, it creates something beautiful.”
MGM created the She Leads Campaign that “highlights women leaders across our organization” and “serves to inspire, provide insights, and offer advice to women growing in their careers.” This movement among other gender equality measures provides confidence and support for Kim to achieve her goals. As a woman in business, Kim knows that women in leadership roles can empower each other.
Lydia Kim.
