CAPTAIN AL’S STEAK & SEAFOOD

Stacey Magnusen grew up in the restaurant business. Her father, Albert Magnusen, started Captain Al’s Steak and Shrimp in 1993. Before that, her grandfather Jim Magnusen owned a Seafood restaurant on the beach in the 1950s.
“I enjoy cooking,” says Magnusen, who now owns Captain Al’s Steak and Seafood and still works there alongside her brother Albert. “A lot of our recipes came from my grandparents. I still use those same recipes today. They
have been passed down from generation to generation.”
As a young girl, she learned the restaurant business from the bottom up by helping her father whenever she could. When not working, she and her brother would play restaurant
as children. “I learned every position in the kitchen before I moved out to the dining room,” she recalled. “I would always help out and enjoyed it. Even now as an owner, I still wash dishes, wait tables, tend bar, work the front line, whatever needs to be done.”
Magnusen prides herself on selling high quality food, including local fare such as fresh sh, crab and shrimp straight from the Gulf
of Mexico, and creating dishes that you can’t get anywhere else. “We provide the Gulf Coast with coastal cuisine with an extra are,” Magnusen said. “We have won numerous awards for the best Bloody Mary on the Coast and even in the state.”
Guests can visit Captain Al’s by land or by sea. The restaurant has added a sand bar and piers for water access with plans for more outdoor expansions.
Magnusen looks forward to what the future holds for Captain Al’s and says, “At the end of the day, creating an atmosphere and experience that the guest enjoy while getting a full belly is the most rewarding part of my job.”
