CELEBRATES SEAFOOD TRADITION
Sept. 8 & 9
The 37th Annual Biloxi Seafood Festival will be a celebration of the seafood heritage of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
It takes place September 8 and 9 on the Town Green, and is the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce’s biggest fundraiser.
The hours are 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Attendees will enjoy live tertainment, arts and crafts, kids activities and great
seafood. Sunday will feature the Sun Herald Gumbo Championship, where — for a separate fee — attendees can taste professional and amateur gumbo from teams competing for the Peoples’ Choice and Best of Show Awards. Entertainment will kick off Saturday at noon and feature Back Alley, Ty Taylor, Miles Flatt and Prince Tribute Band: Purple Masquerade.
Sam Burke and LaWanda Jones are co-chairing the festival. “I am very
excited to repeat as co-chair after such a success last year,” Burke said. “It was a big change to move the venue back to the Biloxi Town Green, but we received nothing but positive feedback.”
Funds raised support Biloxi Chamber of Commerce’s program of work, including small business grants, scholarships, teacher appreciation, educator awards, military spouses events and other community sponsorships.

The Gulf Coast Heart
Walk to benefit the
lifesaving work of
the American Heart
Association will take place September
22, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Jones Park
in Gulfport. Approximately 2,000 guests are expected to attend. In 2017, the walk raised $352,000, and the goal for this year is $400,000.
Chairing the Heart Walk is Jonathan Allen of Allen Toyota, who says it’s an honor to serve as chairman for the walk’s 25th anniversary. “I was presented an opportunity to raise awareness of the
importance of cardiovascular health and wellness,” he said. “I knew I needed to pay attention to my own health and wellness, and my time as the chairman of Heart Walk has been very illuminating on the
importance of spreading this message in the ultimate mission of saving lives on the Gulf Coast.”
The event is sponsored by Allen Toyota; Keesler Federal
Credit Union; Mississippi Peanut Growers Association; HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital; Blacklidge
