AQUARIUM
story by Lynn Lofton
Tickets are on sale for the inaugural Hancock Whitney Splash Bash on September 21 from 7-11 p.m. at Gulfport’s Barksdale Pavilion in Jones Park. The event benefits Mississippi Aquarium and provides guests a night of coastal cuisine, cocktails, and live music from Chinatown, a high- energy rock band.
Guests can leave tuxedos and gowns at home, opting for more casual attire in coastal tones. Some very “cool” guests — penguins — will attend, too. These flightless fowls will be on hand, thanks to the Columbus Zoo Ambassador Animal Program.
“Hancock Whitney is proud to serve as title sponsor of Splash Bash to benefit Mississippi Aquarium,” said Hancock Whitney CEO John M. Hairston. “We anticipate it becoming the premier philanthropic party on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Mississippi Aquarium will be another jewel in
the Coast’s crown, a top-notch attraction to educate and entertain local residents and visitors of all ages.”
“This special event is integral to ensuring Mississippi Aquarium’s ability to fulfill its mission as a visitor attraction and an aquatic education and research facility,” said Mississippi Aquarium President and CEO David J. Kimmel. “This is going to be a world-class aquarium and a point of pride for the state.”
