Women of Stone County
Inita Owen serves as the Superintendent of Education for the Stone County School District. Her entire career has been dedicated to the students of Stone County. As the newly elected Superintendent, she implemented dual credit courses, CTE programs and is committed to ensuring ALL students become productive citizens and are fully prepared for college or a career.
Katie Stonnington recognized a need in Stone County to care
for homeless and unwanted pets. In 2009, she organized the Stone County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The organization currently runs a no-kill shelter that takes in over 1,000 cats and dogs annually.
Rebecca Harris, a nurse practitioner at Stone County Hospital & Family Medical Center, has a passion for empowering, educating, and caring for people with chronic conditions. She makes Stone County home for herself and two sons and finds it an honor to provide care to the people here.
Sherrill Mayton is Plant Manager at Dunn Paper Company, a leading manufacturer of specialty papers for high performance, niche applications. Active in the local community, she has served as Chairman of the Economic Development Partnership and currently is Chairman of the Industrial Committee. She proudly oversees production of some of the finest papers in the world from right here in Stone County.
Mary Frances Carson serves the community as Alderman-at-Large for the citizens of Wiggins. A life-long resident of Stone County, she is retired from USDA-Farm Service Agency. She and husband Doug are members of first United Methodist Church and enjoy cooking, fishing and gardening.
