Early risers crossing the Escatawpa River Bridge can experience a beautiful sunrise to the east. Bring along breakfast or make a stop at Sonic Drive-In for breakfast-to-go.
After breakfast, make plans to visit the Pascagoula River Audubon Center that features activities for guests of all ages. Call ahead to reserve single or tandem kayaks, or make plans to rent the pedal boat. Bring your own binocular or borrow some from the Center.
Find a seat at the counter or in a booth at Burnham’s Fountain and order a burger, sandwich, salad or one of many other selections. Be sure to finish your lunch with ice cream or a shake.
Take a drive around the area to view beautiful, historic homes that help build an image of days of long ago. The moss-draped oaks could tell stories of the past. The oaks and moss become a great backdrop for a photo opp. on Lover’s Lane, the north end of Griffin Street. Don’t worry, the neighbors are used to it.
Spend some time in the Riverfront Park and Veterans Memorial and try to spot the family of Bald Eagles that call the riverfront home.
For dinner, follow the scent of barbeque to Buddy’s House of Food for some excellent soul food to-go. And if you are lucky enough to remain all day, the sunset over Beardslee Lake while crossing the HWY 613 bridge is breathtaking.
