Early establishments, towns and villages were always developed along waterway systems as a means of nourishment, work and transportation. Moss Point is no different!
In its earliest form, the city has been known as Elders Ferry, Mossy Point and then its current identity as Moss Point. Its inhabitants trace back to the Escatawpa and Pascagoula Indians and then workers who arrived in Moss Point to work its lumber business.
From the sounds of sawmills and rail transportation to the sights of schooners and other sailing ships, Moss Point established itself as a thriving community.
