HOME home retreat
The beautiful double lot shows the work of Ecuyer’s labors. A master gardener, she’s added a gold fish pond and a cutting garden so fresh flowers can be used throughout the home. Various plantings and colorful yard art spark the serenity of the lush setting.
Inside, the new living space soars with a cathedral ceiling of heart pine that’s accented with white trim. There are lots of windows to enjoy views
of the lawn and garden, and the airy curtains don’t obstruct the view. “We wanted light and simplicity and to be able to sit down and look outside,” Guido said. “The pine ceiling helped give us warmth.”
Bamboo flooring is used throughout for its durability and so the dogs don’t scratch it. A pleasing combination
of family antique pieces and contemporary furnishings combine
the past and the present. The large Audubon print over the fireplace, family art and photographs give a nod to tradition.
Local contractor Tim Kihneman made
the open shelves that serve as a divider between the entry and the living room and added an unusual backing to encase the large screen television set. These are painted a soft gray to blend perfectly with the blue leather sofa and white lounge chairs.
The old kitchen was gutted and fashioned into a stunning space with maple cabinets and granite counter tops. Large contemporary pewter hardware punches up the look, aided by colorful art and flowers.
The dining room has the original bead board walls painted a cream color. Lots of green touches, hand painted pillows on the banquette and coastal art make the room cheerful while an heirloom hutch and old family photos keep it grounded.
Two original bedrooms were updated with light colors, art and mementoes. There was one bathroom — also updated — and a new, large one was added. All the rooms take advantage of windows looking to the outside.
