Gulfport Galleria Of Fine Art
Murky Waters Blues & BBQ
13th Street Jazz Bistro
do it downtown
The Gulfport Galleria of Fine Art is an artist’s/members non-profit that features many of our talented located artists. Located in the heart of Historic Downtown at 1300 24th Avenue, Gulfport and reached at 228.868.0705. The Galleria
is housed inside the Carnegie Library, built in 1906 by Andrew Carnegie and donated to the City of Gulfport. It’s one of the many historic buildings located in Gulfport. The Carnegie was lovingly restored
after Hurricane Katrina and it’s very fitting that it became the home to many of our talented local artists.
The Galleria features a large array of work from pottery, jewelry, stained glass, acrylics, oil...and the list goes on!
Not only do they have some fabulous art for sale, but they offer many type of classes,
for children and adults, that range from Photography Composition, Raku Firing and Watercolors in Painting.
The Galleria is staffed by the artists/members so you will always have well informed people to help you make the right choice for you, and who knows, you may even sign up for a class. If so, we’ll probably see you there!
There’s a restaurant downtown that makes me think of singing while I eat, well, who am I kidding, most of us who
eat there do sing (along) while
we eat. It’s called Murky Water Blues & BBQ, and it’s located
at 1320 27th Avenue and can be reached at 228.214.4420.
“Not only are they one of
many restaurants located
downtown, but they were one of
the first after Hurricane Katrina
who took a chance on a city trying to rebuild itself. They literally helped to put us back
on the map. We could not have flourished as well as we did without the private
partnerships that make up this wonderful community”, remarks Johnny Olsen, Gulfport Main Street, Board President.
Murky Waters usually has live music on the weekends which packs the house, but it’s always the food that draws them to the front door! And Wednesday nights the customers stand
in line to eat their world-famous wings. Definitely worth the wait!
Another (re)new addition that we
have welcomed back to the downtown community is the 13th Street Jazz
Bistro, located at 2610 13th St., Gulfport, 228.871.7005.
The 13th Street Jazz Bistro is making a comeback in downtown Gulfport and we couldn’t be happier! The co-owners and staff have worked long and hard to make this labor of love happen. The live music is as cool as their beverages!
13th Street Jazz Bistro has live music 3-4 days a week, all to the pleasure of anyone within hearing distance. The Jazz Bistro brings a much needed genre of musical stylings to the coast offering up some of
the best from those like the Coast Jazz Society and funky sessions with The Band of Gold! Check out their loaded schedule for the entire scoop on who’s playing, who’s coming to town and what’s happening.
Need Music? Got Jazz!!!
