Personal touches give added flair to Ocean Springs home
story by Lynn Lofton photos by Katherine Sowers
L ori and Gerrod Kilpatrick wanted to put their
personal stamp on the large home they built in Ocean Springs’ Gulf
Hills Estates two years ago. They accomplished that goal in a variety of ways from the mahogany front door to the enormous back porch with its pine ceiling.
Gerrod, a civil engineer and partner with Machado Pitano Engineers,
was the general contractor for the 4,500-square-foot (including porches) home. “He really wanted to use some brick inside,” Lori, a consulting speech/ language pathologist, said, “and he wanted to use wood to warm things up.”
The mahogany double front doors open from a wide verandah of the home with its exterior paint color of Texas sage green and lots of crisp white trim. Inside, the glowing heart pine flooring is beautiful and immediately draws
the eye into the living room with its expanse of glass doors overlooking the back porch with the bayou and marsh beyond. To the right of the foyer, a brick archway opens into the formal dining room where a gray, white and nautical blue color scheme are used.
