in the living room and kitchen to add a special spark. A corner bar is made of mahogany against a brick wall and a brick archway opens to the kitchen where again the lovely mahogany is used to top a large center island. The living rooms’ mahogany bar is backed with open industrial-style shelves that keep the brick wall on view. The ten-foot ceilings add to the home’s spaciousness.
Although the island is the kitchen’s centerpiece, other features contribute to this room’s attractiveness and functionality. These include the pewter-colored
paint (it’s Sherwin Williams’ ‘Vintage’) around the bottom of the island, ship’s lanterns overhead, quartz counter tops and an informal dining area that sports cheery blue chairs.
Lori’s personal touches throughout the home include the black door knobs and hinges used on the white doors. “They make the house less formal,” she said.
Reflecting their coastal heritage — Lori is from Gulfport and Gerrod from Ocean Springs — the Kilpatricks wanted lots
of coastal touches. They achieved that with cool sea colors in shades of blue and green along with coastal art and decorative items. Lori credits Biloxi designer Ray Ebberman with finding many of those special items. “We’ve included some coral-colored things for summer,” she added.
That coastal theme is carried out in seven-year-old Harper’s bedroom with
a shark canopy over his bed and shark accessories. Ten-year-old Carson chose a baseball theme for his room. The bath the boys share is nautical with round mirrors encircled with rope and ship’s lantern light fixtures.
The downstairs master suite is a retreat complete with a relaxing view of the water. There’s also a large bath, a closet for Gerrod and a closet for Lori that is every woman’s dream with all sorts of built-ins and space.
The Kilpatricks are a family of baseball lovers and both sons play on local age-appropriate teams. They even have a batting cage underneath the raised house. The inviting back porch and pool area are the scene of lots of baseball parties. The porch includes everything needed for entertaining — outdoor kitchen, large screen TV and comfortable seating.
This welcoming home has also been the scene of fundraisers, the most recent being for St. Alphonsus Catholic School which the Kilpatrick sons attend.
