Raising funds for families battling cancer
story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
Local non-profit Costumes for a Cause (C4AC) is on a mission to assist local families in need while they battle cancer and leukemia. In partnership with IP Casino Resort Spa, the group will host a Denim & Diamonds Charity Ball on March 24 from 7-11:30 p.m.
“Denim & Diamonds is an evening of live music, dancing, fun and fashion as some of the Coast’s strong cancer fighters and survivors strut down the runway in our fashion show,” said C4AC president Julie Bradley. “We will also honor some of the Coast’s Heroes of Oncology for devoting their lives to help others fight for theirs.”
Models include Jace Mathews, Dalton Nix, Steve Johnson (Scuba Steve), Austin Barker, Nick Myers, Linda Engler, Jenell Tompkins, Austin Lizana, Taylor Hopwood, Madyson Daniels, Samantha Bell, April Phelps, Josh Tarter, Allison St. Amant and Diane Bounds. Each will be pampered by High Maintenance Hair and Makeup and will be dressed by some of the top local boutiques.
The evening will include live and silent auctions, offering attendees the opportunity to win real diamonds. Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door.

Biloxi Main Street District’s 12th annual Grillin’ on the Green will take place on
March 17 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Biloxi Town Green.
“This year’s event promises to be bigger than ever,” said Kay Miller,
Biloxi Main Street District downtown services manager.
“There will be a variety of barbecue types for event patrons
to choose from. With everything from ribs to brisket to seafood,
there will be something for every palate.”
Over $6,000 in prize money will be awarded to Grillin’ winners. Aside from
the barbecue cook off, the event will feature food and drinks, a children’s play area, arts and crafts and live
entertainment by Rhythm & Rain at 10 a.m., Black Water Brass at noon, and Ty Taylor & The Kinfolk at 3 p.m.
The grilling competition is free to attend and has quickly become a premiere Springtime event on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Grillin’ on the Green was named a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Winter Event for 2010 through 2013.
