Statuary is used to add interest
to the grounds. A cute mermaid sitting on a bench in front of the house overlooks the beach, and large statues of Poseidon and Venus grace the back garden.
A back deck has comfortable seating, rope lights and accent plants, including pansies and hyacinths. There’s a cozy seating area under the deck with a porch swing, a rusting child’s bicycle and an old-fashioned pedestal sink that bespeak Lana’s whimsical touch.
Inside, the home is a mix of casual and elegant that’s pretty and comfortable. “We have three dogs so we must have things that are durable,” Lana Saylor said.
Her love of color is evident in the rich green, blue, gold and beige wall colors used throughout. The living room walls have a glazed effect with lots of black accents to kick it up a
notch. A large painting of Koi fish over the mantle adds a bright punch.
Heavy crown molding and Brazilian cherry floors give rich touches throughout the downstairs living space.
Arched openings lead into the dining room, TV room and kitchen, making the spaces flow while also delineating them. The dining room’s roundness is played up with a round glass-top table and a round rug in soft shades of blue. The glass top sits on a large gold base that the Saylors say was too heavy to float away during Hurricane Katrina. The fabric- covered chairs feature two patterns and repeat the blue color. There are two striking accents in this room — a gorgeous shell mirror that Lana made and a large, intricately carved temple door. The door also survived the storm.
