LEFT: Lush greenery can be found throughout the grounds of the Saylors’ house, as well as, interesting statuary such as the cute mermaid sitting on a bench in front of the house. THIS PAGE: The wallpaper and carpets in the bedrooms help accentuate the uniqueness of this beautiful home.
Saylors lived in a home directly behind their present home. The first home was completely destroyed. They jumped at the opportunity to purchase the waterfront lot and built a Carolina coastal-style home in 2009. “It’s all about the view,” Saylor says.”It’s so peaceful here.”
The kitchen is a favorite spot in the home with its green walls and bronze pressed tin ceiling. The black cabinets might seem an unusual choice but they compliment the room perfectly. “I love it!” Saylor said.
The master bedroom has a lightly-patterned wallpaper and sisal carpet with area rugs. A circa 1850 settee with carved lion heads and gold antiquing is truly unique. Lana points out that the choice of finish matches cabinetry in the master bath. A gold ceiling in the bath also matches. A tester bed, antique desk and faux fireplace — found after Katrina — complete the bedroom.
The carpeted stairs lead to the second level with beautifully appointed bedrooms that have views of the water. In the bath there are two bamboo shelves that survived Katrina’s waters by floating.
