ROMANCE & WEDDING
ON TREND:
Multiple Looks
story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster photos by Maddie Simpson
These days, more and more brides are opting to say “yes” to more than one dress. While finding the perfect dress (twice!) isn’t easy, another issue you may run into is what to do with your hair.
Local hair guru Chuck Kelly, owner of Chuck Kelly Salon Spa, says that many of his brides are approaching them with a similar quandary. “I think with the ‘two-dress trend,’ brides are looking for a more formal ceremony gown and a more comfortable reception gown that allows them a wider range of movement for dancing,” says Kelly. “It’s a great idea, but you do have to keep the style of both dresses in mind when selecting a hairstyle for the day.”
For this year’s South Mississippi Living Romance & Wedding
cover shoot, the Chuck Kelly Salon staff was faced with finding a style that would work with not one, not two, but three dresses. “In a case like this, it’s best to choose the dress with the most restrictions for the hair and find something that works well with it,” Kelly said. “One of the dresses for this shoot was a high-neck lace gown, so we chose to do a loose, romantic updo that would keep the hair off of the dress so it wouldn’t get caught on any of the lace details. The other two dresses both had a deep V shape in the back, so we left a few loose tendrils out to accentuate that feature.”
Kelly stresses that the hair should always accent the dress, not take away from it. Be sure to consult your stylist
about what style would look
best with your face shape
and dress.
