The bathroom was a special project with Trevor doing all the work. “It’s a smaller bathroom so we decided to make
it as interesting as possible, the stained wood accent wall is unique and has the natural vibe I’m drawn to,” Kristin said.
The bathroom light fixture is from a discount store and the vintage hand towels are from a garage sale – eight for $3.
“I tried to make the bedroom my most simple space. The headboard was an old door, and my husband built the low profile bed frame,” Kristin said. “I stenciled our dresser when I was pregnant with our second child. It took me about three hours from start to finish, and I gave birth 12 hours later. I definitely had the whole nesting thing going on!”
The Gamboas live in Gulfport where they’re the owners
of Floor Co. and Flooring & Design Center. Paula describes their decorating style as a mix of transitional, modern, and traditional elements.
“My best advice to give while trying to save money is to shop local,” Paula said. “We have great local home shops that have local art and furniture pieces for great prices. It’s okay to splurge on what I would call important pieces such as a decorative piece of furniture that is unusual, but make that your main piece and find deals on the rest.”
In the Gamboas’ living room, Paula hung her grandmother’s china for a touch of family tradition. She reframed and used an old Don Quixote Picasso print she found at an antique store, and she added texture with shiplap on one wall and tongue and groove on the ceiling.
“In the master bath, we have a classic look with a porcelain marble look alike to save on cost. I did a floor to ceiling application to give a ‘wow’ factor,” Paula said. “In the
kitchen, we did mixed finishes with the cabinet knobs, >> plumbing, and light fixtures. I love the antique gold finishes
