Couple loses 200 pounds and gains new, active life thanks to South Mississippi Surgical Weight Loss Center

Pat Dunbar traded her addiction to cigarettes for an addiction to food. Her husband, Virgil “Doc” Dunbar, had always struggled with his weight. Married for
32 years and the parents of two boys,
it was the birth of two granddaughters that convinced them they needed to lose weight and improve their health.
“We couldn’t run and play,” said Pat, who was also a diabetic. “We decided we were sick of this. We didn’t think we would be around to see them grow up, so we talked to friends who had had the (weight loss) surgery.”
It was 14 months ago that the couple began their efforts to shed the unwanted weight, and they have now lost a total of 202 pounds. For the Dunbars — both employees of Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula — their journey began with weight management training at South
