health programs in 59 counties throughout Mississippi.
“Race for the Cure is the affiliate’s
largest event and enables it to give back
to the community and help in the fight to end breast cancer,” spokeswoman Shannon McLaughlin said. “Seventy-five percent of the net income raised from Komen events stays in Mississippi to fund breast health education and breast cancer screening

Feed My Sheep celebrated a major milestone recently. The Gulfport non-profit organization has served one million meals since re-opening in January 2009. Feed My Sheep was started in 1983 by a group of concerned citizens who saw a need to feed the less fortunate of the community. Today, it serves up to 1,000 meals a day at its facility and to the home bound.
“We give thanks to all who donate, volunteer and support our mission,” said Chairman of the Board Ted Riemann. “I’m reminded that we are all children of chance and it’s our duty to care for those around us. For those in need, hunger is a daily struggle.”
As the numbers continue to grow, so does the need for support from the community, he points out. “Feed My Sheep continues providing nourishment to the working poor, elderly, military veterans, children and the homeless in our community.”
