REAL MEN WEAR PINK

FIGHTING BREAST CANCER IS A JOB FOR ALL! REAL MEN WEAR PINK IS A GROUP ORGANIZED BY THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY (ACS) THAT BRINGS COMMUNITIES TOGETHER TO FIGHT FOR ONE CAUSE: A CURE
FOR BREAST CANCER.
Real Men Wear Pink began in 2013. The first year, the association only had eight men involved. The ACS wanted to find an interesting new way to get communities more involved in the fight against breast cancer, and they did just that!
The American Cancer Society states, “Community leaders around the nation use the power of pink to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society's breast cancer initiatives. By tapping into the power of pink, Real Men Wear Pink has raised more than $40 million since its inception which fuels a live 24/7 helpline for answers and support, breakthrough breast research, and so much more.”
Each year, the “Real Men” wear pink throughout the month of October, post on social media to raise awareness about the disease, and raise a minimum of $2,500 to help the ACS fight breast cancer.
One past Real Men Ambassador, John Carter, has partnered with the non-profit Memorial Hospital Foundation to raise funds by doing a 5K Pink Dress Run/ Race/Walk for breast cancer. This year's event will take place on October 23.
“The Carter's Champions Breast Cancer Fund provides patients financial support as well as early detection support such
as mammograms and ultrasounds. The Foundation uses 100 percent of funds received for patient care,” said Liz Gaulke, executive director of Carter’s Champions.
Everyone who participates in the walk will receive a free t-shirt upon paid entry. All of the funds that Carter’s Champions collects from entry fees, donations, sponsorships, etc. will go straight to the Memorial Hospital Foundation to continue to help patients. This race/run/walk will allow communities to unite together for one reason; the fight to end breast cancer.
