ntonian Salon has been beautifying the Coast since 1996 when the late Anna Marie Sukmann opened the salon on Dedeaux Road in Gulfport. The salon has since moved
to Three Rivers Road and operated by Anna Marie’s daughter, Ann Marie Sukmann Walley is now the owner.
“We're excited to see what the future holds and hope
for another 25 years of beautiful business,” Walley said. “Currently, Antonian Salon has seven stylists and specializes in hair color, haircuts, makeup, styling, nails, and waxing.”
Ann Marie Walley’s husband, Kiowa Walley, and cousin, Jordan Hughes, are two of the salons’ top colorists. Other stylists include Kim Iglesia, Amber Barton, and Emily Banks.
Walley adds that Antonian Salon will be expanding at
the end of 2021 to include a full Glam Bar, more stations, shampoo bowls, and a classroom for advanced education through Antonian Academy. Teaching was her mother's passion during her years as a cosmetology and barber instructor. The Anna Marie G. Sukmann Scholarship fund was established to honor her with scholarships awarded to recipients from area high schools in Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties who are pursuing a career in cosmetology.
The Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport invites you to spend A Night Under the Sea on November 13, 7 to 10 p.m. Their 71st charity ball, being held at the Mississippi Aquarium, promises to be different and a more interactive experience, according to Holly Ford, ball chairwoman.
“We're super excited about it,” Ford said. “Those attending can enter through the front entrance and see some of the Aquarium before going into the main building.”
There will be food, live music, a slide show of the group's projects, and a raffle of $10,000 and other prizes, she says. “You do not have to be present to win; everyone can buy raffle tickets.”
Usually 400 to 500 people attend this $50-per-person event with a cocktail attire dress code.
Founded in 1948, the Junior Auxiliary currently has 90 members. Community projects focus on children with the belief that caring for a child today makes an important difference, not only at that moment in a child’s life, but for the future.
