He has developed a regular clientele that includes Pascagoula Mayor Dane Maxwell, former Mayor Jim Blevins and the first female referee in the NFL, Sarah Thomas, the Pascagoula native who stops by when she’s in town. But, he said, not everyone has accepted Bozo’s Too with open arms. Unfortunately, it does have its share of naysayers. “Some of my loyal Bozos’s Market customers won’t eat at Bozo’s Too,” Delcambre said with a laugh. “They think the food tastes better at the original spot and that’s okay. I just want them to be happy.”
I decided to start with
the fried green tomatoes appetizer on Delcambre’s recommendation. I wasn’t
quite prepared for what I got.
It was about a pound of hand- sliced and hand-breaded green tomatoes with a cream-based sauce that included shrimp, crab
and crawfish.
When it came time to order
my entrée, after finishing less than half of the enormous and delicious appetizer, I knew what I wanted. The steaks sounded delicious as did the burgers and other entrees, but as the old saying goes, “When at Bozo’s, order the fried seafood.”
“Fried seafood is what made us famous,” Delcambre said. “I thought about not putting it on the menu, but I knew better.”
I ordered the shrimp and oyster combo platter and it was absolutely perfect. I had to bring about half of it home, even though it tasted so good I wanted to eat all of it.
“We believe in giving people a lot of great food at a reasonable price,” he said. “I don’t want you to have to stop and get a hamburger on the way home because you didn’t get enough to eat at Bozo’s Too.”
