Nestled in the heart of Ocean Springs, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) reverently preserves the vision of Walter Inglis Anderson, a gentle dreamer of sea, sky, and shore. The museum is not just a gallery—it’s a sanctuary for wonder, rooted in Anderson’s deep communion with the natural world.
Anderson’s art emerges from a rare oneness with nature. From his earliest years, he roamed the Coast, sketching pelicans, crabs, oaks, and marsh grasses with unmatched admiration. Trained at Parsons and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, he matured into a master of many mediums: watercolor, wood carving, linoleum block prints, ceramics, even stained glass.
A centerpiece of the museum is the Little Room, once Anderson’s private retreat in his cottage and now reconstructed within the museum walls. It’s an immersive mural space where every surface—walls, ceiling, and floor—hums with color and life. The effect is transporting, as though stepping into Walter’s own mind, tangling with the rhythms of wind and water.
Next door, in the Ocean Springs Community Center, his murals span the walls, stretching 3,000 square feet. These sweeping
