Some of Alcorn State University’s most driven employees recently completed
a program that will enhance
their professional mentoring skills. Six Alcornites completed the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Coaching Certi cation Program in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility Gold Room. Juan McDonald, career develop- ment instructor, Dr. Adrian Hammitte, career development instructor, Bradford Shedrick, tness coordinator, Dr. Joey Mitchell, director for Career Services, Chelsey Nicholas, head volleyball coach, and Devina Hogan, director of Student En- gagement, received certi cates for meeting the requirements of the program.

Toni Terrett, a mass communications profes-
sor at Alcorn State University, was awarded
the Social Action Trailblazer award at the
2018 Mississippi Delta Days. Terrett was
nominated by the Vicksburg Alumnae Chap-
ter of Delta Sigma eta, of which she is a
member. Terrett received the Social Action
Trailblazer award because of her engagement in new initiatives that inspire others to do more. Terret expressed her excitement about receiving the award.

Dr. Girish K.S. Panicker, director, of the
Alcorn State University Center for Conserva-
tion Research, was invited by the American
Society for Horticultural Science to deliver a
lecture during its 114th annual international
conference. e conference was held Sep-
tember 19-22 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village
in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Panicker presented on the topic, “Fruit Quality, Adaptability, Yield, and Biomass Production of Organi- cally Grown Indigenous and Exotic Melons on a Heavy Soil.”
Several sta members of the School of Agriculture and Ap- plied Sciences, who are also members of various public service Greek sororities and fraternities, gathered on the front steps
of the Extension and Research Building Oct. 13, for what has now become an annual tradition. is tradition allows the sta to come together the day before the Alcorn State University Homecoming football game and be reminded of their public service pledge.
