Alexandrea Johnson, a biology/ pre-medicine major recently returned to Mississippi after studying abroad at Hospital Santa Luiza in Portu-
gal, Spain. Learning from some of Portugal’s best doctors was a pivotal element to Johnson’s development over the summer.

Moriah Batiest, who currently serves as Miss Junior, was selected to be TMCF’s ambassador for Alcorn. Her role will include informing other students about what TMCF has to o er in terms of scholarships and internships.
Angela Hairston, a senior chemistry major from Oklahoma City, Oklaho- ma, will present anticancer research at the 255th American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition Monday, March 19 in New Orleans, Louisiana.  e title of her presentation is “Utilizing Light Sensitive Ruthenium Complexes to Target Cancer.”

Aysha Evans, JaBreann Evans, Uday Gella and Tiana Johnson will represent the University with their  ndings at the third annual Posters in the Rotunda event Tuesday, March 20 at 8:30 a.m. at the State Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi.
Anna Kazarina, a senior, environ- mental science major from Bor, Russia, earned  rst place for her oral presentation, “Understanding Grass- Dark Septate Endophytic (DSE) Fungal Symbioses Using Non-Native Grass Host, Miscanthus Sinensis.” Her poster presentation, “Macro- morphological and Micromorpho- logical Diversity of Root-Associated
Fungal Endophytes of Giant Miscanthus and Witchgrass,” won second place at the Meeting, which was held Feb. 22 and 23 at the University of Southern Mississippi’s  ad Cochran Convention Center in Hattiesburg. Lydia Batey, a junior, plant and soil science major from Collins, Mississippi, earned the second place award for her oral presentation, “Fermentation Optimization and Nutritional Pro ling using Red Yeast in Sweet Potatoes as a Feed Stock.”  e pair of winners is very proud representatives of Alcorn who desire to see each other achieve success.

 e Department of Mass Communications at Alcorn State Univer- sity held an induction ceremony of the Alpha Chi Alpa chapter
of Lambda Pi Eta mass communications honor society induction Wednesday, April 4 in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility. Six students are inducted into the honor society.  ese are the second set of inductees to be inducted into the Alpha Chi Alpha chapter.  e new inductees are A’Leaka Brown, Ma’Rhonda Ratcli e, Simone Joiner, Taylor Moses, D’Vennio Warner and Christina Murry.
