Winners of the Alcorn State University’s School of Business rst Business Plan competition were Kayla Carpenter, senior business administration major was awarded $500, along with rst place. Carpenter created Carpenter Funeral Home, which will provide a variety of funeral services in Fayette, Mississippi. Olivia Gri n, senior business administration major and second place winner was awarded $300. Gri n created B2US, an education consulting rm that o ers educational services to international students to ful ll their desire to complete school at a higher education institution
in the United States. e third place winner was Kaylin Bogan, senior business administration major and Jazmin omas, senior accounting major won $200 for their collaborative business plan entitled “Going Out and Lending Support (GOALS).”
Torria Powell, a Hattiesburg, Missis- sippi native and senior, is among 18 students selected to participate in the Kakehashi Project, a study abroad program in Tokyo, Japan for emerg- ing leaders, March 22-29. Powell is the only student selected from the state of Mississippi.
e Student Government Association at Alcorn State University hosted a Town Hall Meeting Monday, Oct. 23. Students were given a chance to make their voices heard and express their concerns about campus and student life, nancial aid, campus police and activities.

During his senior year at Alcorn, Rodrick Patterson,
a senior at Alcorn, spent a signi cant amount of time traveling to Adams, Claiborne, Franklin and Je erson counties to spread positivity to the communities’ youth. He credits his partnership with teachers and principals in the area for guiding him on his journey.
