Scarlet Pearl
donates to Spirit
of America D’IBERVILLE — To assist in providing
supplies for Ukrainian forces defending the Russian invasion on the front
lines and humanitarian assistance for displaced civilians, Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort donated $10,000 to Spirit of America.
Spirit of America has already sent flights packed with 52 tons of supplies, including Kevlar vests, helmets, first aid kits, medicines, and food supplies. The goal is to send a plane loaded with aid every 10 days.
“We are fortunate that we can assist with this need through our Scarlet Pearl Cares initiative,” said Scarlet Pearl CEO LuAnn Pappas. “Spirit of America is making a difference that few in the world can make. We are privileged to be able to help them save lives, and strongly encourage others to become involved.”
Spirit of America has been recognized by Congress for working alongside U.S. service members to improve their safety and success. Among their other active projects are helping U.S troops clear land mines in Syria and helping the U.S. military to provide medical supplies to Iraqi Special Forces.
Healing Hearts
As part of National Abuse Prevention Month in April, Gold Strike employees supported Healing Hearts Child Advocacy Center by assembling 2,000 pinwheels. The volunteers planted 200 pinwheels at the Bank Plus Garden and sorted the remaining in bags for other gardens to plant. Pinwheels are used to educate communities about the importance of supporting children and preventing child abuse.
   Donating Blood
IP Casino Resort teamed with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive in March. Employees, including Jason Laruson (left), banquet setups, attended the event in the third-floor ballroom. The public was also invited to participate. Also donating blood was Lisa DeMiller (right), housekeeping manager, who said donating blood was just a small thing she could do to help someone in need. The American Red Cross is experiencing the most severe blood shortage in the past decade. They are working around the clock to meet the extraordinary blood needs of hospitals and patients but can’t do it alone.
