ABSENCE DUE TO ILLNESS
TMCF recognizes that a team member may occasionally be unable to work due to illness. For these circumstances, all full-time and part-time team members are eligible for a reasonable amount of paid time off (for team members in Washington D.C., leave under this policy, may include, but is not limited to, leave authorized by the D.C. Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act). TMCF retains the sole discretion to determine whether a team member’s absence qualifies for paid time off and the number of days that will be reasonable under the circumstances.
To be eligible for paid time off due to illness (or qualifying reason under the D.C. Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act) team members must contact their supervisor directly, each day of their absence, as far in advance as possible, but no later than one hour before their scheduled arrival time. Team members who are not able to contact their supervisor should contact Human Resources. If a team member is unable to contact someone personally, a family member or a friend should contact the supervisor or Human Resources. Also, team members must contact their supervisor or the human resources department each day of their absence. Absent extenuating circumstances, a team member who fails to contact his or her immediate supervisor or the human resources department may be considered as having voluntarily resigned.
All approved paid time off for absence due to an illness must be recorded utilizing the TMCF paid time off request form and Nexonia timekeeping platform.
If TMCF has questions about the nature or length of a team member’s illness, a written certification from a physician or licensed healthcare professional may be required, in accordance with applicable law.
Full-time employees can take 10 days (80 hours) of paid sick leave each calendar year for personal illness or medical appointments. Part-time employees are not eligible for sick leave but may qualify for other state- mandated leave. Unused sick leave will not be paid out upon separation from the company. Employees must follow TMCF call-in procedures and provide appropriate documentation as needed.
