SOUNDS OF SUCCESS: HONDA AND TMCF STRIKE UP A $500K SCHOLARSHIP FOR HBCU BANDS
The music of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) marching bands is legendary—a vibrant tradition of precision, passion and showmanship. Now, the students who bring that sound to life are getting a significant boost.
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and Honda have teamed up to provide substantial, need-based scholarships specifically for HBCU band students.
Honda announced a generous $500,000 grant as part of its
enduring commitment to the HBCU community. This funding will be transformative, providing financial assistance to students dedicated to both their academics and their musical endeavors.
For the 2024–2025 academic year, up to 41 students will receive scholarships of up to $10,000 each. This money is designed
to help cover critical costs like tuition and fees, ensuring
these talented musicians can focus on their studies and their performances without the heavy burden of financial stress.
“We are delighted that Honda continues its robust partnership with Thurgood Marshall College Fund,” Dr. Harry L. Williams, president & CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, said. “By providing scholarships to historically Black colleges and universities students engaged in band or music endeavors, Honda demonstrates an exceptional commitment to both TMCF and the wider HBCU community.”
Dr. Williams emphasized that Honda’s continuous support empowers these students for future achievements and enhances their economic opportunities, calling the partnership “ongoing and life changing.”
