INVESTING IN TOMORROW: HUBER FUELS STEM EDUCATION AT HBCUS
A significant investment is set
to propel the next generation
of Black innovators. The J.M. Huber Corporation, a global, family-owned specialty materials manufacturing company,
has announced a substantial
$100,000 donation to provide scholarships for students attending historically Black colleges and universities who are pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
The donation, facilitated through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), will create $10,000 J.M. Huber HBCU Scholarships for 10 students for the 2024–2025 school year. This funding is poised to make a real difference, alleviating financial burdens and allowing dedicated students to focus on their academic pursuits.
“Receiving a $10,000 scholarship has had a significant positive impact on my academic and personal life. A scholarship of this amount covered a huge portion of my tuition, textbooks and other educational expenses. This scholarship alleviated my financial stress, allowing me to focus more on my studies,” Aquil Hayes, a freshman majoring in nursing at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, said.
For Huber, the investment is deeply rooted in the company’s long-standing values.
“We are thrilled to be continuing our support of TMCF and providing access to STEM education for HBCU students,” Lea Volpe, vice president of communications & community relations for Huber, said. “As a sixth-generation family- owned company, our purpose to improve lives for generations drives our efforts to make quality education more accessible to those who need it in the communities where we live and work.”
With over $500 million in scholarships awarded to more than 300,000 HBCU students, TMCF continues to be a crucial pipeline for attracting and retaining diverse talent, ensuring that the next wave of scientists, engineers and educators reflects the rich diversity of our world. Huber’s support ensures this vital work continues, creating opportunities and fueling innovation for years to come.
