HISTORICALLY BLACK COMMUNITY COLLEGES (HBCCs)
This year, TMCF took a closer look
at adding America’s relatively few, greatly underserved historically Black community colleges to our roster of member schools.
While there are only a dozen HBCCs nationwide, these institutions play a critical role in local and regional economic development by offering workforce upskilling and reskilling programs. Yet
our HBCCs aren’t getting the funding and support they deserve.
HBCCs fill a job market niche that experts say will only grow: positions that don’t require a four-year degree. The two-year associate degrees and industry-recognized credentials HBCCs offer can be the perfect launch into the workforce for skilled positions with good pay. What’s more, like other community colleges, HBCC academic credits can be transferred to a four- year university for HBCC students wishing to continue their education.
“HBCCs perfectly align with what we do,” Dr. Harry L. Williams, president & CEO of TMCF, said. “Inviting them to join us only makes sense and should be a natural part of our progression forward.”
