tortillas were served on the side making the dip almost like a fajita only better because of that velvety cheese.
A trip to Pepe’s would not be complete without a visit to the salsa bar where guests can help themselves throughout their meal to freshly prepared salsas, such as Clamato, habanero cream, adobo, Pepe’s chipotle dressing and, our favorite, marinated jalapenos and onions. The jalapenos and onions add a crisp bite to any dish, but we like them right on the chips.
We also sampled the well-seasoned and juicy chicken fajitas. The sizzling hot platter was loaded with large chicken strips that had been marinated, then grilled with green peppers, tomatoes and onions. Served with Spanish rice, refried beans and a bed of lettuce with sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo, the fajitas can also be made with grilled steak, Gulf shrimp or a combination.
If there is a dish that has Pepe’s name on it, it is sure to be good. Pepe’s tacos lived up to the expectation in a bold way. This dish features four soft corn tortillas each stuffed with a meat filling and dressed with fresh cilantro and diced onion, simple yet the way taco lovers appreciate. Fillings include steak marinated in lime juice, traditional grilled steak, pork in a red pepper and garlic gravy,
and chorizo, a pork sausage slowly seasoned with nuts, sun-dried red peppers and a blend of spices. We had the chorizo tacos and immediately understood why Pepe is found early in the morning making the chorizo from scratch.
Pepe’s also offers an array of a la carte and combination plates, including enchiladas, chile rellenos, quesadillas, burritos and chimichangas. Seafood lovers have plenty of choices, too, including favorites such as crawfish enchilada, crawfish burrito and shrimp quesadilla, all topped with cheese sauce.
Like the house-made-daily guacamole, Pepe’s Bosque Mexican Grill is vibrant and bursting with flavor. And at the heart of the restaurant with its friendly servers, locally sourced produce, fresh ingredients and traditional recipes is a family that cares deeply about food and the guests they feed. Pepe’s is open for lunch and dinner daily.
