For the team at Coastal Hearing Center, bringing the sounds of everyday life back to a person who has lost their normal hearing ability is the most rewarding aspect of their careers.
“Good hearing connects you to people and helps communication,” says Dr. Karen Slater. Unfortunately, that quality of life can diminish over time. “To witness the transformation from isolation to reconnecting with the sounds of life is so gratifying.” Slater loves seeing a patient’s quality of life improve by helping to provide the latest state-of-the-art technology that gives them the capability to hear their loved ones.
Slater has been serving the Gulf Coast for more than 33 years. She grew a small business into a large practice, now with locations spanning from Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula. “Our team of six audiologists bring unique testing to all ages not provided by any other facility on the Coast.”
What many might not realize, however, is that audiologists like Coastal Hearing Center do much more than sell hearing aids. They offer services to diagnose specific types of hearing loss to see if it can be treated by a physician first.
“We also offer various types of hearing protection for industrial workers, hunters, and musicians,” says Slater. “If the only option to restore better hearing is a hearing aid, we then fit appropriately and provide continued care throughout the life of the hearing aid to assure optimal benefit.”
