and Dragons, a fantasy-based role-playing game (RPG) that became popular on the 1980s. Players create characters and are led on an adventure by a dungeon master. Extended adventures are known as campaigns. Multi-sided dice are used to move the game forward.
“We have D&D nights every Tuesday,” she said. “We hire a dungeon master to come in. Anyone can come and play – we just ask that you bring your own dice, but we have some for sale if you don’t. I’ve been playing D&D since I was very young and I’ve been playing with the same people for like 15 years.”
But one of the main features of the Kraken is its food. CB is the chef of the operation and she adheres to a philosophy of serving quality ingredients. She said the menu was designed for people who are playing board games. The Kraken serves daily specials that CB said usually sell out quickly.
I tried the wings – actually I tried the Wings of the Badlands – which were fresh-made wings coated in a house sauce that was spicy but not too hot to eat. Wings of the Badlands is
one of many items on the menu that pays homage to various fandoms and pop culture moments such as Fried Green Lantern Tomatoes, The Dang Quesadilla (from Napoleon Dynamite), and Ocarina of Lime, the Kraken’s street tacos that are also featured Tuesdays on Taco Tuesday.
I also tried The Hartfield Burger. The burger was a half- pound, house-made patty with lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese, bacon, jalapenos and BBQ sauce. I ordered a side of Tom’s Seasoned Fries (waffle fries) and I highly recommend you get the kitchen to add the house-made bacon molasses dry rub on the fries. The burger, which was served on a

brioche bun, was massive and the bun could barely contain the toppings. I don’t mean this as a bad thing in any way. A burger should be tasty as Samuel L. Jackson taught us in Pulp Fiction, but it should also be messy. The Hartfield at The Wayward Kraken in Biloxi checks both of these boxes. It is also one of the best burgers you’re going to find on the Coast.
There’s something for everyone at The Wayward Kraken, from its own craft beer to nitro coffee from Bright-Eyed Brew Co. And CB said it best when she said, “We put a little bit of nerd into everything we do.” The Wayward Kraken
