Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence (GCCFN) has been providing
a variety of services in South Mississippi for more than 40 years. Some of their initiatives include
a 24-hour crisis line, domestic violence shelter, sexual assault crisis response, counseling, case management and court advocacy. In 2017 alone, the center served 2,498 individuals and received 15,234 crisis calls.
As our way of giving back to an organization that has helped so many on the Coast, we are giving a portion of our Women in Business proceeds to GCCFN as well as hosting a makeup drive for the
women in the shelter. Many of these women leave
their homes with nothing but the
clothing on their backs,
but are still faced with
important encounters
such as job interviews, court proceedings and meetings with Social Services. To give them a
boost of confidence, we’re asking
the community to help by donating makeup, toiletries and other hygiene essentials at dedicated donation sites throughout the Coast.
“While we do receive some makeup donations from larger companies like Walmart, it’s often whatever is left over that didn’t sell,” said Volunteer Coordinator Charlotte Brown. “A lot of the time we get large amounts of one shade of foundation, and one shade doesn’t fit all.”
We hope you’ll consider donating to this great cause and helping
local women in a time of need. “It’s through the generous donations, dedicated volunteerism and enduring passion of the community that we’re able to provide services,” said CEO Stacey Riley. “We are proud and grateful to continue working to change lives and educate our shared community on breaking the cycle of violence.”

The center is also in need of towels of all sizes, which will not fit in the
donation boxes at the listed sites. If you would like to donate towels, they can be brought to the South
Mississippi Living office,
located at 12268 Intraplex Pkwy in Gulfport. We
will also accept any other donation items including financial donations on behalf of GCCFN.

Did you know that 25 percent of the female population is affected by domestic violence or abuse? Even locally, one in four women, some of whom are neighbors and friends we see
on a daily basis, will be faced with domestic violence or sexual assault. Thankfully, there are people who can help.
