The 35th annual Chefs of the Coast Food & Wine Gala will be held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi on September 24, from 6-8 p.m. Chefs of the Coast is known for featuring elite chefs and restaurateurs as they showcase the diverse local cuisine. The event is hosted by the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Mississippi Hospitality & Restaurant Association, and is the premier food exposition on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The theme of this year’s event is “Diamonds & Pearls.”
Tickets to the event are $65 per person, $80 per person for VIP, $110 per couple and $140 per VIP couple. The evening will include gourmet food sampling, wine tasting, live music and a silent
auction. In addition, VIP ticket holders will be allowed early entry at 5 p.m. for a VIP party and will receive a commemorative event poster and Chefs of the Coast cookbook. Tickets can be purchased through the coliseum box office or online at Ticketmaster.com.
This event was named “Travel Treasure” by AAA Southern Traveler magazine in 2012 and was awarded Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Fall Events in 2015.

Elaine Dukes, who was diagnosed just over a year ago on August 16, 2016. “I’ve consistently performed self-examinations since I was 18 years old,” Dukes said. “Because of that, I found the lump early and the cancer wasn’t able to spread.”
Dukes underwent six rounds of chemo and 34 rounds of radiation treatments, but says she’s had a really good recovery process. “I had excellent doctors along the way who guided me through every step,” Dukes commented.
The event consists of a fundraising 5k, Survivor tent with reception, kids activities and Best “Pinked Up” Person Contest.

The Mississippi Steel Magnolias Affiliate of Susan G. Komen will host its annual Race for the Cure Gulf Coast on September 9 at Jones Park in Gulfport. Registration for the event begins at 4 p.m. with the race starting at 5:30 p.m.
“One hundred percent of the
income from the event goes to breast health and cancer survivors,” said Shannon McLaughlin, one of the event coordinators. “Seventy-five percent will stay in the state of Mississippi and benefit grant recipients, while the remaining 25 percent will go towards cancer research.”
