battered as the White Cap, and has returned as often as it has, is home to a large and loyal following. Michael Lizana, another family partner in this thriving business, tells us that some customers have been coming on a regular basis for 30 years and more.
The menu here rings true to the classic seafood place in a beach side town. Check out the shrimp salad or boiled shrimp for starters. The plates are piled high and the prices are reasonable. It just wouldn’t be right to come here and not try at least one of the fried seafood offerings. A fried shrimp and oyster combo just might be the perfect choice, or the classic seafood platter that’s loaded with stuffed crab, shrimp, scallops, oysters, fish, crab fingers, salad and hush puppies. Wow!
There are also two beef choices that are worth a look — the rib eye and the chopped steak, which is grilled and served just as it should be, with onions and gravy. There are also po-boys, a kids menu, a good assortment of lunch specials, and the shrimp remoulade is famous.
If you are not in the mood for a big meal, take a seat by the window overlooking the beach and highway 90. Order a cold brew, a shrimp cocktail or the fried dill pickles, and just reminisce about the old Gulf Coast. Times do change, storms come and go but thankfully a few of the classic landmarks survive. It’s hard to imagine a visit to the Coast without stopping at the White Cap Restaurant. The Lizana family has worked hard over the years to keep this place going and it remains a Gulf Coast favorite.
