there was the burrata cheese with heirloom tomatoes and baby arugula tossed in balsamic vinaigrette; the crab beignets (not your everyday crab cake) with both Bearnaise and remoulade sauces; the Egg in a Basket, featuring a fried egg in the middle of a piece of brioche and topped with tasso cream sauce and mushrooms; and the kale salad with chevre cheese, tomatoes, crisp apples and candied pecans.
While everything was decidedly delicious and fresh tasting, the Egg in a Basket got the top nod, as the creamy egg yolk mixed into the tasso cream for a tasty treat.
The savory starters got the meal going in the right direction, and
were followed by a lychee sorbet
to help cleanse our palates before
the entrees were served. Mignon’s features steaks, chops, seafood and fish dishes, along with favorites of the house, including the 72-hour beef short rib and the stacked eggplant Napoleon. The meat on the over-sized short rib — which gets its name by being immersed with flavors and marinades for three days — was fall- off-the-bone tender and flavorful. The eggplant Napoleon was layered with
lightly fried eggplant rounds, shrimp, crabmeat and scallops along with provolone cheese and topped with saffron cream.
The surf and turf, one of the restaurant’s popular dishes, is a 6-ounce filet and lobster tail. The filet, which we opted to have topped with foie gras, was cooked to perfection, and the lobster tail was prepared
just right. We also enjoyed the chef’s special for the evening, pan-fried pompano with tasso cream and lump crabmeat. The white, flaky fish, served with polenta cakes, blended nicely with the large cubes of tasso in the cream sauce, giving it a rich taste.
Mignon’s offers a number of sides, big enough to share with the table, including the grilled portabella and onions and the pork belly-sweet potato hash.
Desserts are luxurious at Mignon’s. New on the menu is the Pavlova, vanilla meringue with lemon sabayon (custard) with fresh seasonal berries and toasted almonds. Light, cool and creamy, this is an ideal ending.
Located on the second floor of the casino, Mignon’s also has a prix fixe menu with a three-course meal for $39 per person. >>
