Often times whenever I ask people where they think they can get the best food, the response is “my home” or “I cook the best meals.” It makes complete sense. There’s something special about a home-cooked meal, prepared with time, labor, and most importantly, love. It’s also no surprise that that when we do dine out, we sometimes
set major expectations for our meal to be
as we would have prepared it. In Southern, that translates to “the way momma made it.” Because, let’s be honest, most Southern mommas really are the best cooks. If I am in any way speaking directly to you, then you will want to immediately add Roberts Place Café in the Pass to your list of restaurant go-tos.
Owner and proprietor Dorothy Roberts has long been an important contributor to our coastal community. One of her goals is to make Pass Christian a premier coastal destination. Following the success of her
gift shop, Robin’s Nest in The Pass, Roberts wanted to open a café as a way of bringing people together over a delicious meal. Her parents, Colonel Lawrence and Lucimarian, loved to cook for others and entertain guests. It just made sense to Roberts that she should follow in their footsteps. What better way than breaking bread with guests in her very own, family-infused restaurant?
Roberts Place Café offers delicious and hearty breakfast and lunch options. Dot’s French Toast is a house favorite and was
the first meal that Roberts learned to
make. The Shrimp and Grits (which are served all day) are the perfect rendition of
a cherished Southern staple. Large shrimp are lightly seasoned and served over cheese grits. Accoutrements of bacon, cheese, and green onions round out this breakfast (and lunch) favorite.
