Named Singing River Health System’s New CEO

No doubt about it, Singing River Health System’s new CEO Tiffany Murdock is bright and savvy but, in addition
to leadership skills, she has hands-on health care experience. She believes her years as a nurse and executive nurse play an important role in her new position.
“Being part of health care and seeing good and bad leadership and how that affects patients helps me understand what the staff needs,” she says. “That’s what led to my being in health care leadership.”
Murdock, 41, began her leadership career in administrative and operations in Florida and
then in California before moving to Jackson County. After the birth of daughter Lilly, now 6, she and husband Oliver Murdock wanted to be near family. Four-year-old Harrison later joined the family. Originally from Mobile, she grew up visiting grandparents in Mississippi, and now her dad, Dale Smith, is also living in Ocean Springs to assist as needed with the children.
Prior to being named CEO, Murdock served in other capacities with Singing River Health System including administrator of Singing River Gulfport. As the second largest employer in Jackson County,
the system has a total of almost 4,000 employees, 500 medical providers, and operates three hospitals and more than 30 outpatient clinics in Jackson and Harrison counties. She sees future growth primarily in specialty services.
“I have been blessed by the encouragement from employees,” Murdock said. “I’m optimistic about the future of SRHS. I think the challenges of the pandemic have raised the bar and made us better.”
Flexible work schedules to accommodate different types of people and generations, plus adding contract staff are changes that have resulted from the demands of COVID-19. “Change is inevitable and we’ll never go back to the way it was,” she says.
The possibility of selling SRHS to a larger partner is on the horizon. “From a stability standpoint, having a larger partner will allow us to keep doing the good work we are doing,” Murdock said.
A self-described type A personality, she’s very organized and lives off her work and home calendars. Non-working time is devoted to family and children’s activities. “They keep me young,” she adds, “and I like to read and run when I can.”
