URGENT CARES
story by Victoria Snyder
In the past few years, it seems as if a new urgent care is popping up every day somewhere on the Gulf Coast. Even Waveland, one of the smallest cities on the Coast, has an urgent care. In fact, there are over a dozen on the Gulf Coast alone. What is it exactly that makes urgent cares so popular?
“I’ve noticed patients really love
the flexibility we offer,” says Brianne Whitney, president and COO of Maxem Health Urgent Care, who has been with the company for over ten years. “Coming on-site, being open late and on weekends with minimal wait time has really given patients more options. Many don’t realize how much we really offer.”
So, what all do clinics such as Maxem Health Urgent Care offer? “A variety of emergent and non-emergent services. Anything from your common cold/flu symptoms to fractures and lacerations. We also expand outside of Urgent Care needs,” Whitney explains. Maxem Health Urgent Care is also testing anyone for COVID-19, no symptoms required.
Most urgent cares, including Maxem
Health, are walk-in clinics, so an appointment is not necessary to be treated. At Maxem, their goal is to maintain an average of a thirty-minute wait time. In urgent care, the focus is on how to help the patient most efficiently. “We try to work with all patients to make their experience easy and not time- consuming on their part, so we offer
all our paperwork online, as well as the opportunity to pre-screen via telemed before coming in.” With the growing popularity of telehealth services, Maxem Health Urgent Care recently added twenty-four-hour telehealth services
to their website so that patients can be helped at any time of day.
Not only are urgent cares flexible with times and able to treat a variety of injuries and illnesses, they try to
be conscious of their cost as well. At Maxem Health, they offer flexible payment programs, have medical discount programs, and telehealth appointments are only $50 if someone does not have insurance.
The next time you are looking for treatment of a non-critical problem, consider going to your local urgent care. You will be helping keep emergency rooms clearer for emergency and critical situations while getting treatment that is comparable to that of a doctor’s office.
