story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
Saturday, August 4, marks the third year for Designer Bag Bingo, benefitting Jimmy’s Journey Cancer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that grants wishes of adult cancer patients and their families. Designer Bag Bingo will be held at the Ocean Springs Civic Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. with first call following at 7 p.m.
“This is going to be a fun event,” said Susan Kulick, president and founder of Jimmy’s Journey. “This year we have Michael Kors and Coach bags, as well as several other designers. There will also be a wine grab where everyone who plays will win a bottle of wine.”
The event will include door prizes, raffle baskets and a silent auction.
Tickets for the event are $30 for 10 rounds of bingo and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Drinks are BYOB, unless of course you enter the wine grab! Snacks and bottled water will also be available for purchase.

is celebrating Mississippi authors in Kindred Spirits, an evening of literary arts, from 6-8 p.m. on August 4.
“No artist thrives within a community without the encouragement of that
community. Kindred Spirits is an attempt to capture the genius of Walter Anderson’s work in the writing of authors inspired by the beauty of the Gulf Coast,” said Johnnie Bernhard of Ocean Springs who recently published her second novel, How We Came to Be.”
The evening will open with an introduction by John Anderson and will close with a special reading and performance by Leif Anderson, author of Dancing with my Father. Both are children of Walter Anderson.
Guest authors who will read include Charlie Spillers of Oxford, nonfiction best selling writer of Confessions of an Undercover Agent; Jim Frasier of Pass Christian, multi-published writer, attorney and judge; and Bernhard.
All three writers are nominees of best fiction and nonfiction books by the Mississippi Institute of Arts & Letters. A book signing and craft cocktails will conclude the event.
