are sure to find something you will love. Eggplant Benedict is at the top of the list. It’s a
sumptuous combination of a toasted English muffin,
ham, fried eggplant, two poached eggs and a drizzle of Sunday brunch’s most famous sauce, hollandaise. Redfish Florentine is another house special. It’s an English
muffin topped with spinach Madeline (think creamy), mushrooms and artichoke hearts, a beautiful filet of wild caught Gulf redfish, and more house made hollandaise sauce.
There are also a few standards that you’d expect to
see coming from the kitchen of a NOLA chef, including grillades and grits, shrimp and grits, and a house version of crab cakes.
If you come for weekday breakfast, the menu touts ten choices, but for my money you just have to try the fried chicken beignets. Wow! The chicken is dipped in pancake batter before being fried, then sprinkled with powdered sugar just before it’s served.
The daily menu has seven soups and salads to choose from, and seven sandwiches, plus daily specials. The NOLA barbequed shrimp and roast beef po-boy looked spectacular.
On the Sunday I visited I got the special. Imagine a fluffy biscuit, layered with a patty of breakfast sausage, a round of scrambled eggs, three deep fried oysters and garnished with a spicy pepper jelly. See what I mean?
Lulu’s is full of good juju. What other words could you use for a place that seems nothing short of charmed? Expect friendly people, great food and a return visit soon.
